7.62x53r / 7.62x54r for m28/30 m2830 m39

The 7.62x54r is loaded using PPU brass, a Sierra 175gr MatchKing bullet, and 45grains of Vihtavuori n140 powder (+- 0.02grain with autotrickler and fx120i scale). My testing with two m28/30 rifles indicates that this load is safe and produces a muzzle velocity of approximately 2450 fps, which is very close to the original Finnish military specification. The M28/30 differs from later Finnish M39 rifles and most Soviet Mosin-Nagants in that many examples utilize a tighter bore dimension, often measuring approximately .308–.309 inch.For this reason, collectors and shooters often achieve the best accuracy by using projectiles matched to the rifle’s actual bore dimensions. In my testing, 175gr Sierra MatchKing bullets paired with Vihtavuori N140 powder also produced excellent groups in the M28/30 (The photo shows two separate five-shot groups fired at 50 metres).
