Antique Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer Pocket Revolver

This is a Colt 1855 Sidehammer Model 7 Percussion Revolver more commonly known among collectors as the “Root”. This has a 5 shot roll engraved cylinder chambered in .31 percussion. This has a 3-1/2” round barrel marked “ADDRESS COL. COLT NEW-YORK U.S.A.”.  This has a spur trigger and the hammer is mounted on the right side of the frame. This revolver is numbers matching and retains about 60% original finish with a sharp barrel address.  The engravings are about 80% visible. The one piece walnut grips are in very good condition with some light scuffs. Mechanically in  very fine working condition with perfect timing and lockup.  Colt produced roughly 40000 Root revolvers from 1855 to 1870 in 2 separate serial number runs based on the caliber. This is the only solid frame handgun that Samuel Colt produced in his lifetime and would make an excellent addition to any Colt collection.
