For sale is a very rare and massive 38 bore (.50 calibre) British 2nd model tranter in exceptional condition. This revolver would have likely been purchased by a gentleman circa the 1850s-early 1860s. Completely original and greatly hand manufactured, these really are works of art.

Bluing is amazing, and the cylinder retains almost all of its colour case hardening (typically worn away). The "Tranter's Patent" loading lever is in the white, as it should be, and the bore is exceptional. Nitre bluing on small parts and screws. In a time when Colt Navy and Dragoon revolvers were $18-25, Tranter's exceeded $200 and you can see why in reviewing the end product. Tranters were often used by wealthy Confederate soldiers and Generals, alongside LeMat revolvers and others.

"Extended" trigger is actually a cycling trigger (similar to the effect of a cocking hammer) with a recessed trigger for firing. It is a brilliant mechanism and epitomizes the inginuity that was occuring in the firearms industry in the mid-1800s.

This is the nicest and largest-bore Tranter I've ever come across. Asking $5,500 shipped, insurance extra. EMT preferred. Only trades considered are for/towards high end German WW2 Militaria.
