Up for sale is a fantastic, history-rich WWII Springfield Armory M1 Garand converted by the Italian Military to 7.62x51mm NATO.

Positioned as a prime shooter-grade rifle, this M1 combines authentic World War II provenance with cheap, accessible 7.62 NATO/.308 shooting performance. Built on an August/September 1944 Springfield receiver (⁠3093098⁠), it later underwent post-war NATO standardization and was arsenal-inspected at the Fabbrica d'Armi Terni (FAT) arsenal in 1971.

Shooter & Mechanical Performance

 Bore Condition: very good- Excellent. shiny metal with sharp, well-defined rifling lands. 

 Caliber Convenience: Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO / .308 Win, making feeding and ammo sourcing significantly easier and more cost-effective than standard .30-06.

 Action: Smooth cycling, tight lockup, and complete mechanical reliability.

Authentic Arsenal Markings

 WWII Springfield Receiver: Original receiver heel retains bold US manufacturing stamps (⁠3093098⁠).

 Italian ⁠762 - 2⁠ Overstamp: Official military conversion stamp applied over the struck-out original caliber line on the receiver heel.

 Boxed ⁠[Star] FAT 71⁠ Stock Cartouche: Left wrist stamped with the Stellone d'Italia (Star of Italy) military proof and "71" inspection date from the Terni Arsenal.

 Grip Markings: Underside of the pistol grip features the US ordnance Circled ⁠P⁠ proof mark alongside a stenciled yellow rack number (⁠241⁠).

Condition Notes

 Wood & Metal: Honest military surplus character throughout with a dark Parkerized metal finish.

 Stock Heel: Features a small cosmetic chip at the top wood heel near the buttplate—purely visual wear from service/storage with zero effect on structural integrity or shooting comfort.
