Offered here is a Yugoslav M48 bolt-action rifle, manufactured by Zastava in the early post–World War II period. The M48 series represents Yugoslavia’s domestic Mauser-pattern service rifle, produced using high-quality milled components and intended primarily for long-term military storage rather than extensive field use.
This example retains its original Yugoslav military configuration, featuring the correct intermediate-length Mauser action, milled receiver components, and original-pattern sights. The bolt assembly is original Yugoslav manufacture, showing light, even wear consistent with service handling.
The bore is in very good to excellent condition, with strong, well-defined rifling and no visible pitting. The muzzle crown remains clean and intact. Overall metal finish shows honest military wear.
The stock is original Yugoslav beechwood, displaying typical service handling marks but no structural cracks. Arsenal or unit markings are present, consistent with Yugoslav military inventory practices.
Important notes on configuration:
The rifle is not numbers matching. The barrel bands currently installed are believed not to be correct for this specific M48 configuration, and the rifle is missing the barrel band retaining spring. In addition, the cleaning rod is missing. These points are disclosed in full transparency and should be considered by collectors seeking strict configuration correctness.
Chambered in 8×57mm Mauser. A solid, honest example of an early Yugoslav M48, suitable for collectors or shooters seeking a Mauser-pattern rifle with clear postwar military provenance.
