This Savage Model 40 Super Sporter is chambered in .300 Savage, which is capable of taking medium game out to 300 yards. This example shows that it was well taken of, as the wood shows no signs of wear except for a small "dimple" on the left side of the stock. The original rear sight has been removed and replaced with a Lyman receiver aperture sight. The metal shows normal wear for a rifle of this vintage. The original steel butt plate remains.
The bore and chamber are clean and bright, showing no signs of rust or pitting. The rifle has a 3-round clip.
Only about 12,000 of these rifles were manufactured. Savage produced these rifles from 1928 to 1940. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured about one third of the way through the production run.
The sight is not for sale separately.
