These are based on the FN Model 24/30 Mauser action (a shortened/export version of the Mauser 98 pattern) and were produced as single-shot .22 trainers for the Belgian Armed Forces. They are often called the FN Mauser Model 24/30 .22 or ABL 1952 trainer.Key DetailsProduction: Limited run — roughly 1,000 total for Belgian forces (about 500 for the Army with black finish, 500 for the Navy with a distinctive gray parkerized finish). There were also small contracts for Israel (IDF crest) and the Belgian Congo (FP marking)
Serial Number: Low numbers like 783 fit the ABL series (often starting from low 3-digit numbers). The serial is typically stamped on the receiver, bolt, stock, and other major parts for matching.
Markings: Look for a crown / B / ABL / 1952 (or similar) on the receiver ring. "ABL" stands for Armée Belge / Belgische Leger (Belgian Army). Belgian proof marks (e.g., crowned E or LG) will also be present.
Features: Bolt-action single-shot in .22 LR (no magazine), military-style sights (often adjustable rear), full-length stock similar to the service Mauser carbine, and a barrel length around 24 inches. They were built as dedicated trainers rather than conversions.
