Hand-turned Walnut Predator Call — Closed-Reed Rabbit/Rodent Distress Coaxer, 9cm.Mouth end = the side with the gray insert/X.
Rabbit/cottontail distress: purse lips around the insert and blow short, urgent bursts while “crying” with your diaphragm: waaa… waa-waa-waa… for 20–30 seconds, then sit silent 1–2 min. Start soft, build volume.
Rodent squeaks / coaxing: barely blow (or lightly kiss the hole) for quiet squeaks to pull animals the last few meters.
Change pitch/volume: cup and un-cup your off-hand over the bell (wood end), or roll the call between your palms for a “wah-wah” effect.
Freeze-up/maintenance: keep it dry; if it squeals or sticks, a tiny puff of warm breath or a tap clears moisture. Don’t dunk it—closed reeds don’t like water.
Calls: Coyotes, foxes, bobcats/lynx; also works as a general coaxer after you spot an animal. (Usual safety/regulation caveat for BC: check seasons/areas and be bear-aware.)
