French M1866 Chassepot/Gras Yataghan Sword Bayonet mfd by Stehelin & Cie., Bitschwiller, Thann

Howdy gunpost I have a nice old French blade here for sale. 

This is a Model 1866 Chassepot Bayonet but it will also fit on the Gras to the best of my knowledge. 

This particular example was made by Stehelin & Cie., Bitschwiller, Thann an Alsatian metalworks that fulfilled some of the government bayonet production contracts for imperial France. 

Overall the condition I would say is good to fair. There is some pitting present on the blade inside of the Fuller. It's not overly deep. There is a small chip on the blade which is pictured. And the blade has an overall brownish blackish patina tinge to it. There is some vertigris corrosion near the upper grip rivet, but you could polish that off with some steel wool if you so desired. The bottom of the pommel is thoroughly hammered up and it was cleaned up a little bit with a file by someone at some point. That's relatively common on these old bayonets. The pommels were used as a hammer.

Although it's quite difficult to make out the back of the blade in imperial French cursive script has written the manufacturer Stehelin & Cie., Bitschwiller, Thann and the month in this case Mars or March and the year of manufacturing which is 1868.
