Japanese Type 98 Shin-Gunto Katana

Original WWII service Japanese Type 98 Shin-gunto. The tang of the blade is signed/engraved by the maker Ido Hideotoshi. His name appears in the Seki Tanrensho booklet printed in 1939. Hideotoshi was active during the Showa period and worked at Seki arsenal. He was a very well regarded bladesmith during the Showa era, and his teacher was Amehide, who was himself a student of Kanenaga. Both well regarded smiths.
Good condition. Blade has oxidation staining. The blade has a proper kissaki (tip) with a faint yokote (division between body and grip) and boshi (tip temper line)
The scabbard is steel over wood, in very good condition, with most of the original textured brown paint intact. There is some light denting and scraping. Might have seen use in the field.
The type 98s are made with better quality and craftsmanship than the type 95s. Intended for higher rank officers.
Blade length: 25.5’, Scabbard: 28.5’, overall: 36.75’.
Very sharp. Cuts clean.
