Antique Large Bowie Knife or Small Sword

This is an old sword with horn grips. The blade shows traces of what appears to be Spanish lettering. The Spanish had colonies in the New World, so perhaps this was a repurposed blade during the Revolutionary War or the fur trade era. The blade is pitted, but everything is sound. It is quite a substantial and heavy weapon.
