38 special RCMP database says . Chambers are mint. Most are listed as prohibited. So I guess an old timer or a business can buy it and it's useless to everyone else. 

The 2 parts have different ser numbers. 

 Not aware of any cross compatibility but a machinst or gunsmith might know, especially if they do any prohib repairs.
