This is an exceptional and highly desirable "Black Beauty" Antique Webley W.G. Target revolver made by P. Webley & Son circa 1896 and retailed by Cogswell & Harrison Ltd of London, one of Britain's oldest gunmakers. Retailer-stamped WGs are scarce and command a collector premium. Serial 134XX falls below the RCMP-confirmed antique cutoff (16216), so anyone 18+ can own this with no PAL or registration.

Originally chambered in .455/.476 Webley, the cylinder also accepts .45 ACP (moon clip included with purchase) and .45 Auto Rim — confirmed in writing by the Canadian Firearms Program as not affecting Antique status (letter included). .455 Webley can still be shot with spacers available on gunpost. Fiocchi .455 Webley available at Calgary Shooting Centre or rustywood.ca, or reload antique pressure rounds with .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim brass.

Mechanics

  • 6" barrel; mirror bore, sharp lands, factory-cut striations — minimal use evident
  • SA/DA; crisp hammer positions, strong mainspring, clean trigger pull
  • Cylinder indexes reliably; <1 mm side-to-side play at lockup
  • Top-break latch and hinge solid, no wiggle; ejector spring is a replacement but works perfectly
  • Quick-remove cylinder release lever smooth and intact

Visuals

  • Post-production deep black refinish; clean and even, no scratches, dents, or blemishes
  • Walnut square-bottom grips, strong sharp checkering; one small inactive split at top of right grip
  • "WG Army" on top strap; ".455/.476" caliber stamp; Webley winged bullet logo on left frame
  • Barrel: "COGSWELL & HARRISON Ltd 226 STRAND & 141 NEW BOND St LONDON"
  • Serial 134XX

History The W.G. ("Webley-Government") ran from 1885 into the early 1900s as the private-purchase sidearm of British officers and sportsmen, seeing action from the Boer War and Boxer Rebellion through WW1. Cogswell & Harrison, at 226 Strand from 1882, served officers and gentlemen outfitting for active service. A C&H-retailed WG went somewhere serious.

A scarce and rich piece with outstanding bore and rare desirable .45 chambering — a standout for any serious British arms collector.
