The 1877 line of revolvers was Colt's first double action model ever produced. They made almost 170,000 from 1877 to 1909 with three main designations: the Colt "Lightning" in .38 LC, the "Thunderer" in .41 LC, and the "Rainmaker" in .32. However, due to Canada's laws, only the .41 caliber ones are designated as "antique". This is one of those guns, and it needs no registration or licensing to own.
This particular one (SN 788XX) was produced in 1890. All parts match. The exterior shows a clean finish with dusky blued and original case hardening colours. Screw heads are sharp and clean. The original rampaging Colt grips are in excellent shape with only minor wear on high points. It is one of the models with a fixed ejector rod, which makes case removal easier. The 4 5/8" barrel is stamped with the Hartford Connecticut Colt address and "COLT 41 D.A.", with crisp and sharp letters showing it has not been refinished. The left side of the frame displays the 3 line 1871, 1874, and 1875 patents. Antique loaded .41 Long Colt rounds can be purchased from www.rustywood.ca.
Condition is strong. All mechanisms of the cylinder, action, trigger, and loading/ejector system work as intended. The lockup is rock solid in the firing position while trigger is depressed.
A fantastic piece of history that will still be going strong even in the hands of your great-grandchildren if cared for.
