I'm parting with two of Colt's first double action revolver ever made: the 1877 Thunderer in .41 Long Colt. As pre-1898 Antiques, you can buy, own, keep, and use these without any registration or other paperwork. Both are different so read closely and decide whether to take both for a discounted price of $6500 or just buy one! They don't get much use from me, but I do have some ammo and also holsters I can work into the mix if you like.
Blued ($3150):
Barrel 4 3/8" in .41 with early SN 8747 on frame (made 1878), different serial on trigger guard. Old original rampaging Colt grips are in fair worn condition with light smoothing of the surface. Blueing is a post-production refinish.
Action cycles perfectly, cylinder lockup when firing is rock solid, works in single and double action. Hammer slips at half cock positions but holds at full cock, may need a new sear or to have the sear nocks reground. Bore has wear throughout but still shows rifling.
Nickeled ($3650) WITH COLT ARCHIVE LETTER:
Barrel 6" in .41 with serials matching 56196 (with Colt letter showing it was shipped to Lee Fried & Co. of Omaha, Nebraska on August 28, 1886). This is a fully original revolver which has been well cared for. Other than asthetic losses to the nickel, this is a revolver that acts practically new. Mechanics are extremely strong with 3 sharp clicks of the hammer and motionless lockup of the cylinder when firing. The action works as reliably as possible in single and double action, and she's very accurate. All stamps and writing are strongly legible still. Original rampaging Colt grips are still strong and proud.
Solid rifling with slight loss of crisp edges and minor oxidation. Overall, condition is strong. All mechanisms of the cylinder, action, trigger, and loading/ejector system work as intended. The lockup is rock solid in the firing position while trigger is depressed.
Both have a fixed spring loaded ejector rod, which makes case removal easier. The left side of the frame displays the 3 line 1871, 1874, and 1875 patents. Antique loaded .41 Long Colt rounds can be purchased from www.rustywood.ca.
Both are solid pieces of history that will still be going strong even in the hands of your great-grandchildren if cared for.
