The WG Army was a model that, unlike many other Webleys, never saw government contracts. They were premium quality revolvers destined for private markets, and therefore made with greater care and at higher price points. The WG name was known for reliability, tight mechanics, and accuracy. Many officers in British and other forces from the late 1800s through WW1 would elect to buy and carry a personal Webley WG on their hip instead of the standard issues service revolvers, as the only requirement for bringing your own sidearm was that it needed to shoot the regular issue .455 Webley cartridge. This very likely would have been carried and cared for by a wealthy landowner or higher ranking service member, until it was exported from England as told by the export stamp on the left frame.
With a shiny midnight-black finish, the dusky hues of this revolver are hard to photograph in ther full complexity and hard to rival. It has a post production high-polish finish which leaves the frame an incredible clean dark sheen that nicely contrasts with the nickeled hammer, trigger, and cylinder retention hardware. I handle this revolver with gloves because even a the oil of a finger touch will stand out on the surface.
The mechanics are extremely tight and well maintained, with a rock solid top break lockup. The action is crisp with a clean trigger pull in both single and double action. The Webley patented quick-release cylinder lever allows for easy access and cleaning, which it is obvious has been done to keep this thing in top shape through the years. The only non-original part, the grips are high quality replacements that have been custom fitted. The 6" barrel has extremely sharp rifling in a mirror bore with occasional scattered minor and nearly indiscernible points of wear.
The value of these revolvers only goes up over the years if properly cared for as more and more antiques see use and wear in Canada.
