This is the scarcer "officer's" variant of the Mod. 1873. There is a high probability that it is a commercial licensed copy made in Belgium. It has the fluted cylinder and a most rare take down lever on the right side of the frame as opposed to the more common screw on the left side. This particular pistol has been nickeled and is now chambered in .455 from the original 11mm French ordnance caliber. The action is crisp and clean with all operations, advance, timing, and lock up, being excellent. The chambers are excellent and the bore is clean with good rifling. Sadly, very few stamps and serial numbers remain. I believe a lot were scrubbed when the pistol was buffed for the application of the nickel. There is an indistinct name on the barrel, the letter "R" surmounted by a star which is a Belgian stamp, and the production number "19" on some parts (assembly stamps).. This should be a very good shooter.
