C. H. Ballard Single-Shot Micro Deringer, .41 Rim Fire, RARE
Charles H. Ballard of Worcester, Mass. was better known for his rifles than his - possibly only - pistol. While Ballard rifles enjoy a legendary reputation among 19th century hunters and target shooters, the little pistols made by the same company have remained in the shadow of the famous long arm. These little deringers are well made, and of a simple construction. The tip-down barrel has a small ejector attached to it, making the removal of the spent cartridge easy. The action mechanism has two positions - a safe cock for loading, and a full cock for firing. There is very little known about these and only a few thousand of them were produced in about 1870.

This is a scarce, late production model with an iron frame. It bears serial number 2113 and is in very good condition. The action is smooth and works as it should. The hinge and extractor are intact and fully operational. The bore of the 2 3/4 inch barrel is good, with strong rifling. The walnut grips are excellent and undamaged, with original varnish intact. SN 2113, rated very good.
