For the advanced Webley collector…
The Holy Grail of Webley antiques. An absolutely beautiful Webley MKI**.
Completely unmolested in its original form.
Pristine bore and perfect chambers. Flawless mechanicals and a lovely age appropriate patina (free of ghastly blue makeup and disfiguring surgery).
Through the 1890’s the British Navy acquired Webley MKI and II service revolvers. The early revolvers (MKI - MKIV) were manufactured for black powder.
With the start of WWI, Webley refurbished the Navy’s revolvers with MKV cylinders (designed for the new smokeless cordite loads).
These MKI and II revolvers were then stamped with a double star to indicated the upgrade to smokeless proof and returned to the Navy in 1915.
They are exceedingly rare in Canada.
This example is entirely original and unmodified. No clumsy re-blue, no butchering for inappropriate loads. This darling boasts her lovely natural patina as a quality collector antique should.
Many Webley revolvers have had the back end of their cylinders shaved off to accept 45ACP. Apart from the ugly scar of lopping the cylinder short, any revolver with this modification may have had 45ACP rounds put through it far exceeding 455 Webley proof pressures (and many are MKI-IV cylinders meant only for BP).
This however is the real deal.
Imported personally (at higher cost than offered here) from a US collector who understood the significance of this beautiful piece.
