Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver in 31 Percussion caliber, 4" barrel, 5 shot. Serial numbers match on barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap and date it to 1860 production, right at the start of the American Civil War! If only this piece could talk, it was in existence in the U.S. throughout the entire Civil War period! Half and full cock work excellent. Timing and lockup are good, only slight common movement in lockup. The cylinder hand spring is light so it needs to be cocked aiming forward or down to advance the cylinder, which is the position one would normally have it in anyways while firing. Cylinder nipples are in good shape and all clear. Original grips are worn, right panel has small chip at bottom and small crack. Bore had common wear/pitting for a gun of this vintage. Overall a nice early Civil War Colt. Many of these were private purchased by family members and given to son's/husband's as a back up carry on the battle field. Antique status in Canada, no PAL required to purchase or own. Will include an RCMP FRT printout showing antique status in Canada. $1475 includes Free Shipping, insurance extra, EMT preferred.
