Browning made the Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle between 1977-1981 in three calibres, 45, 50 and 54. This is a 54 cal with iron furniture mounted on a walnut stock. The heavy Green River barrel with a single set trigger weighs in at approximately 10 lbs but is easy to hold on target. The rear sight is adjustable and this rifle can be quite accurate.
The bore is quite good with crisp rifling, the set trigger is activated by pushing it forward and the adjustable trigger has a very sensitive touch. The lock is very smooth and solid. There are some blemishes on the metal near the breech where it looks like someone struggled to take off the barrel at one time but the wood is sound with very minor marks here and there. The butt plate has some lighter tones that may be from use or intentionally for the frontier look. No rust anywhere.
