Spanish M44 Air Force Mauser. Made at the Fabrica de Armas La Coruña in Spain. Between 1943 and 1950.

The "Secret" Polish/German History: Many M44s were built using receivers and parts originally made by Radom (Poland) or Mauser (Germany) that were sent to Spain during the Civil War. This explains why you see German "S/42" or "WaA" (Waffenamt) markings on a Spanish-crested rifle.

EA 15930 (Serial)The EA stands for Ejército del Aire (Air Force). This serial block is unique to this contract.

Cal 7.92 Stamped on the receiver to confirm it is chambered in 8mm Mauser.

Checkered Bolt Knob was a hallmark of the M44 and the Polish wz.29 parts often used in their construction. It was intended to provide a better grip for aircrews or ground personnel in varying conditions.

The Air Force M44s are generally considered to be of higher build quality and finish than the more common Spanish M43 Army rifles. They were produced in much smaller numbers, making them a "sleeper" hit for Mauser collectors.

Bit of a unicorn as it retains the S/42 K mark on the sight base is a great "Easter egg"—it tells the story of how a part made in Oberndorf, Germany, in 1934 traveled to Spain, survived a civil war, and was reborn as a Spanish Air Force rifle in the 1940s.
