REALLY UNIQUE British Marlin 1894 in desirable 38 Win (. 38-40 ). Barrel stamped "Hooton & Jones. 60 Dale St. Liverpool". And 4 barrel proof marks: one looks like a tiny British cross-sword stamp. Two I can't make out, and on is "08". Year of manufacture estimated to be 1895-96. SN 113612. RBFM - Round barrel, full magazine. Receiver: Very high % of blue remaining on receiver but uneven wear is evident. Strong remaining finish on the barrel and magazine, trending towards plumb-brown patina. Crown is undamaged, has the normal finish wear there. Original sights. Screws look good - not buggered up. Action locks up tight. Excellent wood, has a nice bit of red in the vintage finish. Appears to me un-refinished / unsanded: buttstock fits very well to the metal, color is right. Butt plate still has finish on it. Bore bright and shiny, modest amount of remaining rifling. Dating this rifle: "According to Brophy the Model 1894 started at serial number 107678 on 07/09/1894." So this looks an early manufactured rifle. First year.
Quite an amazing find, and in beautiful condition. Looks she has traveled the ocean, and back.
Lots of pics for prospective buyer.
