This is a well-preserved Yugoslavian M98/48, a rifle originally manufactured as a German Kar98k and refurbished post-WWII at the Kragujevac factory. It represents a specific era of European history where German wartime technology was integrated into the Yugoslavian military inventory. The rifle is chambered in the standard 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser) and is in excellent mechanical and aesthetic condition.
Receiver Markings and History
The receiver ring features a sharp and clearly defined Yugoslavian national crest, while the side rail is marked "PREDUZECE 44", identifying its origin from the Zastava facility. Notably, the original German "Mod. 98" designation remains visible on the rail, confirming its lineage as a captured and re-marked Kar98k. The bluing on the metal surfaces remains deep and consistent, with minimal thinning on the high edges.
Matching Components and Condition
This specimen is particularly desirable for collectors due to its matching serial numbers. The serial 6775 is clearly stamped and matching on the receiver, the bolt handle, the magazine floorplate, barrel band and the laminate stock. The stock itself is in exceptional condition, featuring a strong "BK" inspection cartouche and a rich, original-style finish without the heavy sanding often found on surplus imports. The bore is bright with strong rifling, and the action remains smooth and tight.
Accessories and Purchase Details
The rifle includes an authentic correct leather sling and an authentic Yugo brown leather ammunition pouch, both of which are in pliable, service-ready condition. It also retains its original cleaning rod and front sight hood. This is a solid, numbers-matching example for the Mauser enthusiast or the historical collector.
