Imagine it's 1946. WW2 is over but the Cold War & Russian Expansionism is in full swing so firearms are needed. The Russian economy is hurting. Russia is now producing this shorter, easier to handle M44 instead of the longer Mosin 91/30. They have a surplus of milled steel bolts for receiver actions & components like butt plates & magazine covers. That's why Post War M44's will have different numbers for Bolts, Butt Plates & Mag covers. These existing components were utilized in the short production run of the M44's. That's the case with this 1946 production M44. The firearm is "as it was created" at Izhevsk.
