I am offering a Model 99 Savage EG for sale. This rifle is in 300 Savage caliber, equipped with vintage Alaskan Scope (original leather lens covers) with Stith Mounts. What is unique about this rifle is the acquisitive engraving. I have had this rifle in my collection for a while now and have decided that it is time to move it on to for someone else to enjoy. I purchased this rifle from the Grandson of a man that owned it since new. The original owner was stationed in Occupied Japan after WWII and either purchased this rifle from the PX/ BX or had it sent to him from home while stationed in Japan. At this era in Japan there were Japanese Master Engravers that were unemployed, and a lot of GIs hired these Engravers to engrave their guns. A lot of these engravers worked very inexpensively, and some where know to trade their engraving work for American cigarettes as items like this were very expensive for the Japanese to buy. The term that these guns were often referred to was 'Cigarette Guns".

Although I can find no signature on the rifle, I have through my research been told by other collectors that specialize in this era of engraving that the style can be attributed to Hiro Sugaya or Shiro Ogawa. These engravers style can be identified by doing barrel engraving which is unusual.

The serial number dates the rifle to 1949. The rifle is in excellent condition and likely used, it was well taken care of.

Price $4600.00 plus shipping and insurance. Proof of valid PAL will be required.

I can provide further information about the original owner to buyer if requested.
