British Capture 98/29 Persian Mauser | ISSUED
Up for sale is a 98/29 Persian Mauser with the original Pahlavi dynasty crest, Imperial Guard acceptance stamps, and Persian number lettering on the ladder sight. This is a rarer “British capture” example that is virtually unobtanium on the market. Even issued examples are harder to find. The receiver features British Nitro proof marks and an additional acceptance stamp (likely British or European).
These rifles were originally produced by the famous Brno factory in Czechoslovakia under contract for the Shah of Iran. He sought to modernize Iran’s military in the interwar period. Given its age, this rifle was likely captured during the Anglo-Soviet Invasion of Iran in 1941 or during the Mossadegh coup in 1953.
Aside from its rich history, this rifle is in excellent condition. All the bluing and markings are nice and crisp. It is also a great shooter, the bore being spectacular for its age and backstory. Overall, it's a once in a decade find as Persian Mauser's alone don't pop up often—let alone an exotic variant.
