I bought this rifle at a gun show in Brockville Ontario about 35 years ago. At the time it was coated in a thick layer of varnish or shellac. Everything on the rifle, including the bolt was frozen in shellac. But I liked the look of the rifle and bought it anyway. I put it away in my gun safe and initially, every few years, I’d take it out and consider removing the shellac. But I never did for fear of damaging the rifle with a shellac removing solvent. I took it out early this year and was surprised that the action now worked and the heavy coating of shellac was gone. The rifle is shellac free except for the fold down adjustable sight which is still coated in dark shellac or varnish. I’ve found three numbers that look like they were serial numbers. On the receiver is the number ERA 395752. (ERA stands for Eddystone Remington Arms). On the bolt is the number 339899. On the Butt Plate is the number 350206. The action operates easily and the internal magazine still has a strong spring. The rifling is worn but still there. Please feel free to forward any questions to me. I’ve never fired this rifle and I won’t mail it to a buyer. Any sale would have to be completed face to face. I accept cash only and a PAL is necessary.
