This stutzen or short rifle (official resignation: Repetier-Stutzen) was mainly used by special troops (i.e. storm troops) during World War I. Its sights were graduated 500–2400 paces (375–1800 m).
In 1930s, modification consisted of rechambering it for 8×56mmR cartridge and got S stamp on barrel.
Bolt operates smoothly and does not bind. Many rifles were assembled with bolts that were not properly fitted, resulting in stiff or difficult bolt operation.
