In 1973, Winchester Canada Ltd., introduced a special commemorative honoring the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
This never been fired R.C.M.P. Centennial Musket features a walnut extended forearm and stock with the initials “MP” branded at the butt end. The round barrel carries the engraved inscription “R.C.M.P. Centennial 1873-1973” in gold letters. The rear band, forearm cap and buttplate are gold plated. The sights are blade front and musket-type rear.
The gold plated receiver is roll engraved on the right side with the initials “MP” and scroll work. The left side shows a mounted constable, the dates “1873-1973”, and scroll work. The hammer, lever, trigger and loading gate are blued. The upper tang is engraved with the Forces motto, “Maintiens Le Droit”, French for “Uphold the Right”.
The gold plated medallion depicts the R.C.M.P. insignia with “NWMP • NWMP • RCMP 1873–1973” surrounding it. The medallion is embedded in the right side of the buttstock.
The serial number, with the prefix “RCMP”, is located on the front underside of the receiver.
9,500* were made for general issue and 4,850* were made exclusively for R.C.M.P. members.
