Up for sale is a very good condition Beretta 685.
Some restorative work was done on this gun to make it look as good as new.
First, the barrels were sent off to Ribstone Gunsmithing to have the sling swivel removed and then slow rust blued to clean up some bluing loss on the barrels. The slow rust blue looks better than the factory original. Once returned, the original brass bead was replaced with a Beretta genuine red optic sight that was purchased from Stoeger. Ejectors were polished and the timing is perfect.
Other than a good cleaning, there was nothing that needed to be done with the receiver. It looks as good as new. No dings in the finish whatsoever.
The wood was stripped of the original ugly Beretta Lacquer and any scratches were lightly sanded out. The sling swivel hole was plugged and then a nickel stock oval was created using one from a 686 as a template. Stock oval was shaped, inlet into the stock and then sanded in so it flows with the wood of the stock. A new rubber recoil pad to match the original red rubber was ordered from Italy from a Beretta parts specialist (Brignoli Armeria) as the red rubber are not available, or at least I couldn’t find them in North America. It was shaped, and installed prior to refinishing the stock to again get a near seamless finish. The stock was refinished using Scherell’s Schaftol gun stock oil in dark walnut and sanded in with 280, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and then 5000 grit wet sand paper with an extra coat between sandings for a total of 20 coats of oil and a smooth finish. First coat was heavy to soak into the wood. Checkering received 2 good coats.
The barrels are choked full and modified and the length of pull is over 14,5 inches.
This is a great looking gun at the fraction of the cost of a 686. The older guns were known to be of better quality than the newer production guns.
