Rene is an excellent man to deal with in purchasing a firearm. I recently bought an amazing Harrington & Richardson Model 48 TOPPER 12 Gauge with a 30 Inch Barrel 3" Chamber and a very nice Full Choke with an Auto-Ejector that once you open the action, it launches the empty hull 10 feet behind me and I absolutely love it!!!! This "meat & potatoes" Single Shot both looks and performs like its spent the last 20 years as a Safe Queen because there isn't 1 single blemish on the bluing and I'd say that the bluing would be at 98% and the brass front bead is still nice and bright as well. This shotgun locks up as tight as a Brand New shotgun and the wood is flawless, maybe a tad dull from age ONLY. There aren't any scuffs or scrapes on either the forend or stock and the ONLY "damage" is a small 1/4" x 1/4" corner missing from the plastic butt plate on the bottom. I have since re-done the wood because this H&R M48 TOPPER deserved the extra work on it to make it look like it has just come out of the box, so I spend a Sat sanding down the wood and after I was finished, I was shocked with the amount of woodgrain that was hidden under the factory stain. I didn't see any woodgrain under the factory stain but after I sanded all the old stain off, the amount of woodgrain was shocking!!! It was then that I knew once I refinished the wood that it was going to look awesome and it did!!! I first put on 1 coat of TRU-OIL and allowed it to dry thoroughly, then I applied 2 coats of MINWAX RED MAHOGANY STAIN and after it dried thoroughly, I then applied another coat of TRU-OIL and allowed it to dry. After 2 days, I lightly sanded the wood with 000 Steel Wool and applied another coat of TRU-OIL, then used the 000 Steel Wool again, wiped off the dust with a damp cloth, allowed it to dry and sprayed the wood with 4 coats of Matte Clearcoat and it left me with a nice dark stained wood with a hint of RED and all that woodgrain just popped from the forend and stock, with the Matte Clearcoat layers to protect the wood without being "shiny" because I simply don't like shiny wood, so the Matte was perfect!!! All I need to do now is to install a White Ivory Front Bead to the barrel and I'm all set in the looks department. Finally, I'll install an Indian Creek Black Diamond Choke. Bottomline is that the H&R M48 TOPPER was an excellent purchase and RENE was the greatest guy to sell it to me!!! I will definitely buy another shotgun from him again!!! I watch his inventory every week and I'm waiting for a nice SxS 12 Gauge to pop up, then I'll buy that from him too!!! Thanks Rene!! You're the man!!! ~Tom...
