Square vs Angled Bayonet Collar.

The square and angled bayonet collars are distinct designs and are not directly interchangeable. Each uses a differently shaped bayonet retention bracket (latch plate), and the bayonet handle housing is machined accordingly to accept that geometry. Production in 1952 was transitional, with early rifles fitted with square collars and later rifles using angled collars. Due to these structural differences, reshaping a square collar to resemble an angled collar will not result in correct fit and will be dysfunctional.
