Hello. For sale is this beautiful classic knife made by late James Terrance Downie of Sarnia, ON
- My best guess is 1980’s. JT Downie started selling his knives in 1978
Size: Blade length 4.25” Handle length also 4.25”. Width of blade 3/16” - Very beautiful and precise hollow grind. Mirror polished, full tang blade
- No chips or damage to the edge or tip
- I cannot confirm the blade material. Based on records though, J. T. Downie used following types of steel: D2, 440C and ATS-34
- Knife maker’s signature on the blade (J. T. Downie)
- Handle is likely rosewood (my best guess, comparing it to my guitar’s fretboard)
- Scales are attached by four brass pins
- Knife sheath is custom made from thick hide and fits the knife like a tight Kydex would. No play. After initial resistance, the knife just “snaps” in for a very secure fit. Sheath has stitching and brass pins.
Condition: This is a used knife. Yes, it is in very nice condition given its age, but the knife has been handled, it has been used and it has been sharpened Handle’s varnish shows signs of use as well.
I cannot describe, how comfortable this knife feels in the hand. It is very light, and has a feel of custom knife making from 30-40 years ago. Very cool piece!
Knife is located in Alliston, ON. Shipping Canada wide for 20.-
