The Colt model 1889 Navy was the very first double action revolver to be designed with a swing-out cylinder. This provided advantages such as faster case ejection and reloading compared to loading port revolvers, and increased structural integrity due to the solid top strap. The M1892 series was introduced with some notable improvements such as cylinder lock work to prevent backspin and in 1894 another improvement was made locking hammer use while the cylinder is swung out. This is technically an M1896 model with 1894 features but a slightly different address line on the barrel. Another feature that set this revolver apart from others is the counter-clockwise rotation of the swing out cylinder, which was likely made to cater to US Navy demands. Because it is a pre-1898 Antique, this handgun is unregistered and can generally be used where a non-restricted gun is ok.

This is one of the most modern revolvers you could hope to get that is still antique in Canada, and only a small number of these were chambered in .41 Long Colt compared to the more common .38 LC. The all-matching serial number 780xx dates this revolver to 1897. Batch numbers were also used for quality control; this one has "821" assembly markings. The surface is quite nice with a blued finish and few significant scuffs, scratches, or dents. The original beautiful fire blue shine can still be seen at the right angle on the trigger, hammer, and some of the screws.

The action and firing mechanisms of this revolver are excellent, with consistently strong primer hits and perfect lockup/cycling/ejecting. The cylinder is almost rock solid at lockup. It has full 2 line Colt address on the barrel and a shiny blued finish. The bore shows strong rifling with minor scattered patches of freckling.

Comes with original Colt hard rubber grips with the rampant colt design and 3 notches on the left grip to keep track of... Something. We'll let the imagination can fill in the gaps. I ALSO HAVE SOME .41 LC BRASS I CAN SELL if needed

A magnificent example of Colt history for use as a collector piece, plinker, range shooter, or bush gun.
