This is an antique Remington Model 1861 Navy percussion revolver. This has a 7-3/8” octagon barrel with the barrel address faded but still legible. Barrel address: PATENTED DEC.17, 1861/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS’, ILION, N.Y.. this revolver has a 6 shot smooth cylinder chambered in .36 percussion. Small amounts of original finish found in protected areas. Grips are in very good condition with some light scuffs. Numerous military inspection marks found throughout. All serial numbers matching. Mechanical crisp with proper timing and solid lock up. 
Remington produced around 7000 1861 Navy revolvers in 1862 making this a rare item. Nearly are revolvers that were made went to fill military contracts. The 1861 is easily identified by the channel cut in the top of the loading lever which allows for the removal of the cylinder pin without lowering the loading lever. This beautiful and rare American Civil War revolver would be right at home in any serious antique collection.
