On the block is very nice mechanically excellent S&W New Mod.#3 in the popular .44 Russian caliber. There is still bluing in the protected areas with the balance faded to a nice patina and even evidence of case colour hardening still on the hammer. The bore and chambers show clear evidence of old black powder fouling but the rifling is still very good. There is no sign of rust or damage and the grips are very good with the name of an old owner scratched inside them (Charles Stalsby, Oakdale LA). The pistol comes with a very nice vintage H.H. Heiser holster. Heiser went out of business in the 1960's though this is holster is much earlier (no mod.#) and even without the retention strap it alone is worth over $200. USD to a collector, being a "3 loop" model, This is an early 4 digit serial numbered pistol with all the numbers matching (frame, cylinder, and barrel latch). It should be an excellent shooter.
As with all antiques, no PAL or registration is required.
