Offered here is a very nice example of the Hopkins & Allen XL No. 4 revolver chambered in .38 Rimfire. These spur trigger pocket revolvers represent a higher-quality tier of late 19th century American pocket arms and were built with better fit, finish, and safety features than many of the inexpensive spur trigger revolvers commonly encountered today.

Condition & Mechanics: The revolver is mechanically excellent and functions nearly perfectly. Timing and action are very smooth, and the overall mechanical condition is far better than most examples seen on the market.

Finish & Appearance: The revolver retains very attractive bluing and overall condition, presenting far better than the typical spur trigger revolver. It is a clean and visually appealing antique with strong collector presence.

Design Features: The XL No. 4 incorporates safety stop notches between the chambers similar to those used on many larger western revolvers. This design allows the revolver to safely carry all five rounds without resting the hammer on a loaded chamber, an advanced safety feature for a pocket revolver of this era.

Ammunition: Chambered in .38 Rimfire. Brass can still be sourced online or easily fabricated from .38 Special brass, allowing the revolver to remain a functional and shootable antique.

Collector Value: Quality examples of the XL No. 4 are becoming harder to find, especially in strong mechanical condition. Comparable examples commonly bring $1,300–$1,600 on the market.

Price: $1,075 shipped.

Legal Note: This is a pre-1898 antique firearm and may be legally owned and discharged anywhere a non-restricted firearm is permitted in accordance with Canadian law.
