Factory sporter Mauser 98 in 9.3x57. Close resemblance to the presentation rifle gifted to Hermann Goering in 1940 by by Reich Minister of Justice Franz Gurtner, made by Ludwig Schiwy of Berlin. Other commercial rifles by L Schiwy are known to exist, this may be an example if his work. A similar rifle is depicted in page 267-268 of The Commercial Mauser 98 by Lester Womack. Originally chambered in 9x57, this rifle was rebored to the larger caliber, resulting in the rifling being around 20 thousandths in depth (as opposed to the modern 8 thousandths). Hand carved octagon to round barrel with a full length top rib, this rifle features an elegant, shotgun style trigger guard, cheek piece, a butter knife bolt handle, extensive engraving, and a deep slow-rust bluing. Set trigger missing, fires perfectly regardless.
