SMLE No.1 Mk.III armourer’s cutaway in .303 British. 9 3/8 inch barrel. 13 inch LOP. Almost every single component has a cut away sight hole. The portion of the receiver that would have the makers marking is gone. The stock is marked Australia, so it is likely a Lithgow manufacture. The receiver has a British broad arrow and the barrel a Canadian broad arrow. It appears the original serial number would have been A 98198. The number SKN0016 has been assigned to the barrel, receiver and stock. That was likely done after the cutaway work. Due to the historical significance, and the fact that this was done intentionally by the government shortly after the firearm was manufactured, this item is exempt under the short barrel laws in Canada. This is still functional, so it is also considered a non-restricted firearm. Do not fire life ammunition from this, you will blow it up. Really cool collectors item.
