Up for sale is an authentic, pre-buyout New Haven manufactured Marlin Model 444 big-bore lever action rifle. Chambered in the powerful .444 Marlin caliber, this rifle was manufactured in 1978 (Serial 2208xxxx). This is a highly desirable, original Connecticut "JM" stamped rifle built during Marlin's golden era.

Mechanical & Metal Condition: Mechanically, this rifle is in Very Good condition with a tight lockup and a bright Micro-Groove barrel featuring sharp rifling. The factory blueing on the receiver is in excellent shape for a 1978 field gun, showing deep color and very little edge wear. The original gold-plated trigger still has excellent color retention.

Wood Condition (Honest Field Wear): The walnut furniture shows clear character from years of successful hunting:

• Buttstock: Displays standard surface scuffs, finish-level scratches, and hunting marks primarily around the wrist and left side. The original Marlin black-and-white "bullseye" inlay is perfectly intact.
• Forend: Shows heavier cosmetic wear. There is a small, tight hairline crack starting at the very front edge of the forend tip where it meets the nose cap. Additionally, there is a prominent, dark grain-line scratch/separation running along the bottom center of the wood from the receiver to the nose cap (see photos). The wood remains structurally tight and stable, but it is priced accordingly.

Upgrades & Features:

• Sight System: Upgraded with a vintage Williams FP (Foolproof) Receiver Peep Sight mounted to the factory receiver holes. The original rear barrel leaf sight has been removed and plugged with a blanking slot.
• Hammer Extension: Fitted with a knurled aftermarket hammer spur under the peep sight.
• Recoil Pad: Upgraded vintage ventilated rubber recoil pad to manage the .444's thump.
• Sling Hardware: Front and rear sling swivel studs installed.
