ENFIELD MARTINI Mk-IV caliber .577/450
The rifle was a newly-made Mk-IV, not a conversion, dated 1887
This 1887 was from the first year of issue. A better than average example for the Martini Collector.
.577/.450 Martini-Henry, 33" barrel with a very good bore
Rifling is correct for the rifle,Wide land, then double small grooves is best way to describe it.
The metal shows most of the original finish, clear British inspector marks and proofs
The roundel is: Rawul Pinda an Indian Arsenal. 1908 is the year of disposal The 1 indicates first class weapon.
Saw Indian service until 1908 and was transferred to Nepal at that time by the Indian arsenal for the second or third batch.
On the butt, the "RP" over 1908 stands for Rawalpindi, the arsenal from which this rifle was decommissioned and sold to the Nepalese.
Seldom seen in such pristine condition....
