For sale is an authentic, textbook example of a British Enfield Pattern 1839 (P39) Tower Percussion Musket. This was the first official percussion long arm adopted by the British military, marking the end of the flintlock era. This particular piece features the correct 39-inch barrel and a massive .75 caliber (approx. 19-20mm) bore, consistent with original infantry issue.
Details & Markings:
Lock Plate: Clearly stamped with "TOWER" and "PROOF" across the tail.
Barrel: Displays authentic British military proof marks (Crown over Crossed Scepters).
Hardware: All-original brass furniture, including the trumpet-shaped top ramrod pipe and brass trigger guard.
Stock: Original walnut with a deep, dark, and honest patina. Shows the wear you’d expect from a 180-year-old service arm but remains structurally solid.
Condition Note:
This musket is in beautiful aesthetic condition with an excellent, "untouched" look—perfect for a high-end wall display or historical collection. Mechanically, the hammer does not always hold securely in the cocked positions. It likely requires a minor internal adjustment to the sear or tumbler. Sold as-is for display or as a light restoration project.
