Up for sale is an exceptionally clean, historically rich Yugoslavian M48 bolt-action rifle chambered in 8x57mm Mauser (8mm Mauser). Built at the famous Zastava Arms factory (Preduzece 44), this piece is an excellent example of post-WWII military craftsmanship, retaining crisp markings and deep, rich bluing.
This rifle comes as a complete package, paired with an original matching-style Yugoslavian Mauser bayonet, steel scabbard, and leather frog assembly.
Key Features & Markings:
• Receiver Crest: Features a sharp, beautifully struck Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia state crest over the crisp M-48 model designation.
• Factory Markings: The left side of the receiver ring is clearly stamped with the Cyrillic ПРЕДУЗЕЋЕ 44 (Enterprise 44 / Zastava Arms), along with the import/exporter markings (ZASTAVA-RS) visible under close inspection.
• Metal Condition: Excellent rich, deep bluing remains across the receiver, barrel, trigger guard, and floorplate. The bolt body remains in full, bright polished white with a smooth mechanical action.
• Stock: Gorgeous, dark oiled teak or elm hardwood stock with excellent grain structure. It features the classic M48 full-length handguard that wraps completely around the rear sight block. The wood exhibits minor handling marks and historical dings consistent with military storage, but free of cracks or structural failures.
• Hardware: Complete with the heavy, cupped steel buttplate, front sight hood, cleaning rod, and the correct stamped barrel bands featuring authentic factory inspection proofs.
• Accessories Included: Includes a correct pattern Yugoslavian Mauser bayonet with rich wood grips, matching-style blued scabbard, and an authentic brown leather belt frog featuring classic stitched triangle reinforcement.
Condition Breakdown:
• Action: Smooth, strong Mauser 98-pattern intermediate-length action. Lockup is tight, and the feeding/ejection cycle is flawless. The bolt is mismatched but is correct to the rifle.
