Stevens Crack-Shot Mod. 16 .22LR Rolling Block with Side Lever action. Single Shot. Take-down via a single screw., 20” bbl., 34-1/4” overall, serial. D809. Fixed Sights. Half cock safety. Made by The J.Stevens Arms & Tool Company, Chicopee Falls, Mass., USA.
This is one of the earlier versions stamped “patent applied for” instead of the patent number. It would have been the kind of rifle that a youth would learn on, plinked, and hunted with.
This one probably dates from around 1900 but they were produced up to about 1912. (The later Stevens mod. 26 Crackshot was an under lever version of the same rifle and produced between 1912 & 1939), The J. Stevens Company developed and subsequently introduced the .22Long Rifle cartridge.
This example is in nicely preserved condition with an oil finished walnut stock & for-end with no noticeable marks or scratches and a hard rubber butt plate. All screws are in good condition and not abused. Stamping is crisp and the rifle retains most of its bluing.
