Here is a fairly rare Royal Irish Constabulary Lee Enfield carbine, dated 1900. It was converted for RIC use (to be able to mount the P1888 bayonet) and entered service with them in March 1904. The RIC rack number, 437, is the lowest of all of these carbines currently known to still exist in the world.
The woodwork shows all the usual bumps and dings accumulated over 125 years. Someone has scratched 'No P' on the left side of the butt, which carries a possible back story in itself. The bore is excellent and it shoots with no issues. I have used 'period correct' unjacketed round nose lead bullets with a reduced powder load. As is common with these examples there is pitting to the outside of the forend of the barrel, especially below the wood line. See the photos for this and the general condition of the carbine.
The accompanying Wilkinson London bayonet comes with an old, but correct, reproduction scabbard.
