This is an original Chinese Type 53 (中国五三式) bolt-action rifle, chambered in 7.62×54R, the Chinese-produced variant of the Mosin–Nagant system. The Type 53 was adopted by China in the early 1950s and served as a standard infantry rifle, closely based on the Soviet M44 pattern.
This example is dated 1955, as marked on the barrel shank, and features the characteristic Chinese factory markings associated with early Type 53 production. The rifle retains its original military configuration, including the correct short carbine barrel length, integral folding bayonet assembly, and military rear sight.
The wood stock shows honest service wear consistent with a surplus military rifle, including handling marks, finish wear, and age-related character. The metal surfaces display a uniform service patina with no visible structural damage. The bolt operates smoothly, and the action functions correctly.
The bore shows strong, visible rifling, and this rifle has been test fired to confirm basic functionality. As with all surplus firearms of this age, it is offered in original military condition rather than refinished or restored.
The 中国五三式 (Type 53) holds strong historical significance as China’s first widely issued domestically produced bolt-action rifle and remains highly sought after by collectors of Cold War–era military firearms, especially among Chinese and international Mosin–Nagant collectors.
A solid and authentic example suitable for collectors, historical displays, or surplus rifle enthusiasts seeking a genuine Chinese Type 53.
