Offered for sale is a World War I era British Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mk III rifle, manufactured in 1915 by BSA Co., chambered in .303 British.

This rifle represents a classic example of a service-used and later arsenal-refurbished SMLE. The rifle retains its original Mk III configuration, including the cut-off base, consistent with rifles that remained in long-term military service.

The bolt is marked with a different serial number, while the receiver has been force-matched, consistent with typical British military refurbishment practices where functional serviceability took priority over matching numbers.

The rifle retains its original wood furniture. The right side of the buttstock still shows the original brass stock disc, and the surrounding wood bears multiple layers of faint unit and rack markings, indicative of reissue and long-term military service.

The upper handguard shows a professionally repaired crack, which has been properly stabilized and remains solid with no movement observed, consistent with typical service wear.

Importantly, the bore is very bright with strong, sharp rifling, indicating excellent internal condition, a highly desirable feature for both collectors and shooters.

Of particular note, the rifle retains its original finish, exhibiting a distinct greenish/olive patina often seen on British service rifles of this era. This coloration results from traditional rust bluing processes combined with long-term oil preservation, and is widely regarded as a strong indicator of original, unrefinished condition.

The metal surfaces show honest service wear throughout, and the rifle presents as an authentic, unrefinished example rather than a restored piece.
