gewehr 1898 made in 1918 by mauser oberndorf. chambered in 8x57mm. this has seem some life but is a very good shooter despite its outward appearance.
all matching that i can see except the stock and fittings (barrel bands, buttplate) the stock is taken from a brazilian 1908 pattern mauser (identical stock to g98), but there is a new serial number stamped into the wood that matches the gun so i dont know if thats a period replacement or what.
the finish is pretty much gone but there is no major pitting, just an even patina which makes this a nice candidate for a refurbishment project. the action is glassy smooth and extracts and ejects perfectly. the bore is dark with strong sharp rifling and as i said it shoots very well.
this is not a collectors piece but rather a ww1 gewehr 98 you can shoot without feeling like you are devaluing a collectible.
asking 1900 shipped but feel free to make me an offer, the worst ill say is a polite no. but no trades please.
or i can meet face to face at the oshawa gun club.
i also have a butcher bayonet for it that i might consider selling as well.
pics below are just to give you an idea of the general condition of the patina, if there is something specific you would like to see let me know.
