This Gewehr 88 was originally converted to Gewehr 88 S configuration by rechambering it for 1903-pattern 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge. It was subsequently converted to Gewehr 88/05 configuration by adding stripper-clip guides to rear of the receiver and modifying magazine to accept Gewehr 98-style stripper clips.
Have WWI German unit marking: 24.R.10.242, interpreted as Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 24, 10th Company, weapon No. 242. The regiment saw combat on Western Front, including Belgium/Flanders in 1914
The bolt bears Turkish/Arabic markigs.
